Manure Disposal:
Spread in the woods or bag and place in dumpster. This includes day riding parking lots.
Special Notes:
Heyburn Lake WMA is closed for hunting from October 1st through January 15th, April 6th through May 6th, and the Saturday and Sunday before April 6th each year. Saturday and Sunday dates for 2020 are April 4th & 5th. The WMA is west of the Bowtie through the gate and north of 141st St. in the old Rocky Point area. Sheppard’s Point and the old Rocky Point area are open year round for riding and camping, no hunting allowed.
Water hydrants at campsites are shut off during the winter. Water hydrants in the primitive area and by the bee house (west of gate house) have been replaced with frost free hydrants and these are on year round. Bathrooms are closed during winter but the new vault toilets in the primitive area is open year round. Electricity at campsites is on year round.
I ride at Heyburn barefooted but as more rocks have washed to the surface, especially in the park, I am now recommending your horse be shod or use boots if they have tender feet. Just to be on the safe side. Most rocky places in the park you can go around. If you have a good footed horse you should be fine.
